Our Commitment

Fundraising efforts:why we wrote this book, and organizations we support

When we sat down to write this book, we committed ourselves to a few important goals.

  • We wanted to tell a good story that everyone would enjoy.
  • We wanted to share the environmental importance sustainable farming has in our world today.
  • We wanted to show the power a small group of individuals possess when they get fired up about a cause.
  • We wanted to share an example of a successful business model built around a cause.

And finally, we wanted to generate funds for organizations that:

  • Support family farm initiatives.
  • Promote the use of sustainable and organic agricultural methods.
  • Work for the humane treatment of animals.

(By the way, raising funds may be the most challenging goal of the bunch.)

Here’s how we’re going about it:

  • Non-profit organizations can purchase books directly from ASM Books at a reduced cost and sell them for retail price through their websites, in their mass mailings, at their meetings, etc.
  • Corporate sponsors can use the book to generate funds for their favorite non-profit organization by selling it in their stores, on their websites, etc.
  • Food producers can utilize our book as a marketing tool to spread the word about their products through their sales force, their website, in their packaging, etc.

We’d like to help your organization. Share with us your ideas. We can design a program that meets your needs. Let’s work together to spread the good word. Contact us and we’ll work out the details.*

Kickin’ it all off!!!

Because we had to start somewhere, our kick-off fundraising effort begins with The Association of Family Farms (AFF). During 2005, ASM Books will donate all net proceeds to AFF. This does not mean, however, that we are working solely with one organization. We’d like to help out whomever we can. We intend to support the other organizations listed below to the best of our abilities. And we'd like to support anyone else who might be interested in working with us.

Here are a few of the organizations we support

The Organic Center for Education and Promotion (www.organiccenter.org)

The Organic Center for Education and Promotion works to get more everyday, ordinary people eating organic food. They work to educate about the healthy benefits of organic food. They complete scientific research about organic foods in order to help educate the media, government agencies, and the general public. For a more detailed account of the Center’s various projects and to update yourself on the benefits of leading an organic lifestyle, please visit them at their website.

Association of Family Farms (www.associationoffamilyfarms.org)

The Association of Family Farms (AFF) works to help family farms in the United States thrive and prosper. The good folks with AFF are designing a marketing system that brings local and regional family farm organizations together under a national “umbrella” brand. This brand will enable family farms to produce wholesome foods and prosper. And, as these farmers grow this great food, they will take care of the land, treat animals humanely, and look after their communities.

Organic Farming Research Foundation (www.ofrf.org )

The Organic Farming Research Foundation (OFRF) does quite a few things to promote organic farming. They sponsor research related to organic farming practices. They make sure the results to all of that research ends up in the hands of organic farmers and to growers who are interested in adopting organic production systems. And, they work to educate the public and decision-makers about organic farming issues.

Farm Aid (www.farmaid.org)

Farm Aid has helped family farmers for 20 years now. Each year, their concert, featuring major music stars, generates funds and national media attention. During the remainder of the year they devote themselves to helping family farmers stay on their land, produce healthy food, protect our natural resources, and strengthen local economies.
